Frequently Asked Questions

 Manual: I bought the game without the manual . . .

You can download the manual for F1C here:

F1C Manual

 Tracks: How do I install tracks?

Simply put the new track folder into the Season02\Tracks folder in F12002, or in the SeasonData\Circuits folder in F1C.

Read more advanced techniques in the "Guides" section.

 Tracks: Where can I get tracks?

A great resource site for tracks is this site: PUMA

Another good site is: IDT

Other than that, you can look at my track list: Tracks

 Keyboard commands:  What keys are for . . . ?

Some keys not shown in controller options or in the manual:

ctrl-f = shows frames per second

1 = turn mirrors on and off

2 = turn hud on and off

3 = turn broadcast displays on and off

page up = swingman cameras

page down = circuit cameras

Home = onboard cameras

Insert = cockpit cameras

number pad keys:

      1 - 9 = zoom/rotate/pan

      5 = return to original view

      -/+ = change car

      enter = return to original car

ctrl-d = slow motion (in replay)

ctrl-g = speed up (in replay)

 Car handling:  Why do I keep spinning out in F1 cars?

The setups that came with the original F1 game are not very good.  To decrease rear-end spin you need to move the brake and weight balance to the front of the car.  I also recommend you download some good setups from one of the general update sites.

There is a good "Driving Guide" here:

RSC Forum "Driving Guide"

 Grip: Can I increase how the cars grip the road?

Yes, open up the terrain.ini file with wordpad and increase the grip values.  Be careful, only increase by 0.05 at a time . . . usually dry roads from 1.05 up to 1.20 is sufficient.  Anymore than that will cause wierd effects.

(F12002)

Go to Season02\Tracks\terrain.ini

// Roads
[FEEDBACK]
Dry=1.00 Wet=0.80

(F1C)

Go to SeasonData\Circuits\terrain.ini

[TRACKVARS]
RoadDryGrip=1.00
RoadWetGrip=0.80

Warning: Changing these values is not allowed for online racing!

 Weather:  Can I have only dry conditions?

I hate driving in the rain too, but it does make for a more interesting challenge.  Yes, you can change the weather to dry only by changing the weather line for the race you are running.  Open your player file (in the save folder) and look for:

QUICK Weather="2" // Random/season/sunny/etc.

(0=random, 1=actual season, 2=dry)

For championship seasons you have to change the .bch file for the mod or season you are playing (also in the save folder).  Look for this line:

RACECOND_weather=2

 Driving View: How Do I edit the driving view?

There are two ways you can edit the views:

1) Edit each individual car by opening the .veh file (found in each car folder) with wordpad, and change the eyepoint values.

2) Edit all cars by opening the default.cfg file (found in the "Save" folder) with wordpad, and change the "PositionOffset" values.

Read more advanced techniques in the "Guides" section.

 Mirrors: The mirrors are not showing up or only half way.

This is a problem where the track you installed doesn't have the proper settings for your setup.  Just open a .scn file from another track that is working and copy these lines (below) overtop of the same lines in the .scn file of the problem track:

View=rearview
{
Clear=True
Color=(171, 205, 255)
Size=(256.0, 128.0) Center=(128.0, 64.0)
FOV=(62.5, 62.5)
ClipPlanes=(1.00, 150.00)
}

 AI problems: Cars crash, drive wrong lines, sink into the pavement, etc.

If you have installed an updated version of a track and the AI cars now act like they're still driving on the old track, or sink into the pavement, or drive across portions of the track . . . then there's a simple fix.  When ever you race on a track the AI are recorded in a .hat file, located in the LOG/HAT folder.  These files are produced every time you race on a track for the first time, so it's safe to delete them.  So if you have problems, just go into this folder and delete all the .hat files.

 Frame rates: How do I increase fps?

I assume you don't have a great video card, or you wouldn't be asking this question, so follow these steps:

1. Turn off AntiAliasing or Antistropic Filtering in your video card settings and run the 3Dconfig again (found in the main F12002 or F1C folder).

2. With AA and AF off, now you should be able to run with a higher resolution like 1024x768 or 1280x1024 which will give you a cleaner picture. Or try a lower resolution to get better fps.

3.  Turn down lighting, shadows, and/or track detail in the game to medium.  Try one at a time or all three.

4. Open your player file (found in the save folder with extension .plr) with wordpad and scroll or search to the line that says "Max Visible Vehicles="60".  Change that number to about 10 or 12 and you will see a big improvement in frame rates.

Tip: Your maximum resolution when running the 3D Config will only allow you to go as high as your monitor will support.

 3D Config: I tried to load a mod but the 3D Config screen keeps coming up, or the regular F1 game starts.

When you first install the game and run the 3D config program, the game creates a "config.ini" file with your video settings.  (It's found in the main directory for F12002 and F1C).  However each mod you install also has it's own .ini file, usually labelled with the mod name and an .ini extension, like GTR2002config.ini.

So when you change video drivers you have to run the 3D config again, but the game is not programmed to recognize any mod .ini files, so you have to manually copy in the new video lines.

Open the original config.ini file and the new mod .ini file with wordpad.  Then copy all the lines below "GridSize" from the original config.ini file and paste them over the same lines in the mod .ini file.  Warning: Do not change any lines above "GridSize" in the mod .ini file because those lines are specific for the mod.  If lose those you will have to reinstall the mod.

Tip: Vince Klortho has a good config writing program that you can find in my downloads section.

 Music: Can I have my own music in the game menus?

Yes, you can put your own .mp3 files in the game for the menu music.  Just put one or several .mp3 files into the "Music" folder in F12002 or F1C.  The game will automatically cycle through multiple files.

 No cd patch:  Is there one and where can I download it?

There are no-cd patches for F12002 and F1C which will allow you to play the game without the cd.  Just go to the "Downloads" section at this site, download the zip file, then unzip and put the new .exe file in your main F12002 or F1C directory.

Tip: The game will load faster if you delete the two EA animations.  Go into the "anim" folder and delete these files:  EAIntro.bik and EAS.bik
